Hypoglycemia: testimony of people living with type 1 diabetes

All stages of the BETTER project are developed in collaboration with adultes and parent of children living with type 1 diabetes (patient-partners). The latter, gave the overall direction to the BETTER project, namely the reduction of hypoglycemic episodes.

Hypoglycemia occurs when the blood sugar level is too low. Its causes are multiple: too much insulin injected, skipped or shifted meals, physical activity, intense emotion, etc. People living with type 1 diabetes report experiencing, on average, 2 to 3 episodes of hypoglycemia per week. If hypoglycemia is not recognized and treated quickly, blood sugar levels will continue to drop and the situation can become more serious.

In this video, they tell us about an episode of hypoglycemia that they experienced and that was the most striking in their eyes.

Join the BETTER Project!

All adults and children living with type 1 diabetes in Quebec are invited to join the registry. There are already more than 2000 people registered.
