All stages of the BETTER project are developed in collaboration with patient-partners. The latter, gave the overall direction to the BETTER project, namely the reduction of hypoglycemic episodes.
Hypoglycemia occurs when the blood sugar level is too low. Its causes are multiple: too much insulin injected, skipped or shifted meals, physical activity, intense emotion, etc. People with type 1 diabetes report experiencing, on average, 2 to 3 episodes of hypoglycemia per week. If hypoglycemia is not recognized and treated quickly, blood sugar levels will continue to drop and the situation can become more serious.
In this video, the patient-partners tell us about an episode of hypoglycemia that they experienced and that was the most striking in their eyes.
