The BETTER Project and the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) invite you to a special screening of Low Priority, a fiction short film inspired by the lived experiences of people living with diabetes and experiencing homelessness.
The film tells the story of Bobby, a man living with diabetes who experiences a severe hypoglycemic event in the bathroom of a shelter. His journey to the hospital highlights the stigma, bias, and barriers that people experiencing homelessness may face when seeking healthcare.
The film was developed based on research and the lived experiences of members of the Calgary Diabetes Advocacy Committee (CDAC) and produced by Dr. David J. T. Campbell, an endocrinologist and researcher at the University of Calgary.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Campbell about the film and issues related to access to healthcare for people living with diabetes and experiencing homelessness.
This event is intended in particular for healthcare professionals and people who work with individuals experiencing homelessness, including physicians, nurses, support workers, shelter staff, community workers, and others working in related settings.
Practical Information
The film will be presented in English with French subtitles.

About Dr. David J. T. Campbell
David J. T. Campbell, MD, PhD, MSc, FRCPC, is an Associate Professor and endocrinologist at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on health services and community-based participatory research, with a particular interest in improving care and health outcomes for people experiencing different forms of social vulnerability.
