Why is an online training platform useful for people with type 1 diabetes?
An online training platform is an incredibly helpful resource for people with type 1 diabetes for various reasons. Number one, its content is reliable, drafted by healthcare professionals and focused on type 1 diabetes, while a lot of the information about diabetes found online is mainly focused on type 2 diabetes and not necessarily relevant.
Second, the SUPPORT platform summarizes all of the essential information, and it is based on data that has been thoroughly reviewed. The information and recommendations are bound to be updated whenever new medication and technology become available, and as long as you have an Internet connection, you can access it wherever you live, and whatever your conditions and resources are. This means a major boost in independence for people who live far from big cities and hospitals and wouldn’t otherwise have access to so much relevant, reliable and up-to-date content.
What is particular about the SUPPORT platform?
What is so original and appealing about this platform is that its content is reviewed not only by professionals who specialize in treating type 1 diabetes (doctors, nurses, dieticians, kinesiologists, etc.), but also by a panel of patients with type 1 diabetes. These are volunteers who have been living with this condition for some time, some work and others don’t, some are very active and others are not, and others don’t have type 1 diabetes but their child does. Through this variety of individual experiences and discussions with the healthcare professionals in charge of the SUPPORT platform, these patients help to shed an accurate light on issues, life circumstances and situations that would otherwise remain vastly underestimated. The platform provides clear and easy-to-understand information, and it allows users to go through levels at their own pace and go back to previous levels before going to the next, if they wish.
The graphic design is pleasing, yet not childish, and the content is accessible through a variety of media (short video clips, tables, diagrams, short articles) so that everyone can enjoy it. We have a tool that is aptly named SUPPORT, because you can count on it whenever and as often as you need it to refresh our memory or learn something new, and unlike much of the information found online, it is reliable and regularly updated.
